Fantasy Chat

I was thinking about doing another weekly column where each Friday I would answer readers questions about who to start on Sunday for fantasy football, whether possible trades would get through or be vetoed, and who I thought would would be victorious this weekend. But to do that, I would need active readers who participate. Actually, I would first need to "readers". I know there are some out there....Mark?.....Chris?.....Liz? I am pretty sure that even two of our founding fathers Paul and the artist formerly known as Sky don't check this thing more than semi-annually.

Anyways here are my Top 3 fantasy performers for week 3 along with the bottom 3. Keep in mind that these players are what I consider Star quality. For the bottom 3 especially. It would be real easy for me to say that the 4th WR on the Browns wont have good fantasy stats, so I am not going to do that.

Top 3
1. Michael Clayton TB, WR
2. Brian Westbrook Philly, RB
3. Trent Green KC, QB

Bottom 3
1. Michael Vick Atl, QB
2. Ahman Green GB, RB
3. Chad Johnson Cin, WR

For the record, my two fantasy teams are a combined 1-3 so be careful to base your decisions on what I write.

NFL Ramblings

I am going to try and start a weekly column where I ramble on about the NFL and more specifically how my fantasy football teams are faring. I figure this will give me a chance to rant about underperforming top picks and break down the Chicago Bears and their inevitable playoff run.

  • Let me start off by saying how impressive Chicago looked last week against hated rival Detroit Lions. Maybe it is because the Lions are awful, but the Bears looked like they did back in 2001 when they went 13-3. A serviceable QB, then Jim Miller now Kyle Orton, a fantastic group of defenders led by a healthy Urlacher, a go to WR in Muhammed and a powerful running game in Jones and eventually Benson. While 13-3 might be a stretch this year, with the horrendous starts from Detroit, GB and Minny (1-5 total), I can't see why winning the NFC North would be all that suprising.
  • Michael Vick is by far the most overrated fantasy player of all time. Seriously, why would anyone want him as a starting QB? He throws for 125 yards a game and gives you maybe, one touchdown pass. He gets picked off more than he throws TD's, fumbles regularly and gets sacked a suprisingly high amount of drop backs (every 8 times!!). And yet every game, he breaks off a Barry Sanders like 22 yard run and the announcers go ballistic. "Vick is the most explosive, entertaining player in this league" and so on. Here is a great fantasy baseball analogy: Let's say that Michael Vick is a pitcher. He really sucks and usually goes 4-18 with a 7.5 era and 2.3 whip. But he bats .280, steals 10 bases and hits 6 HRs (which is unheard of from pitchers) Would you really think that he is a top 5 fantasy pitcher? Of course not. Until there is a slot on my starting lineup for "running quarterbacks" which only counts rushing yards, there is no way I would ever want him on my team.

Don't you hate it when....

You need to make a whole bunch of copies, and while you wait for said copies at the copier, you pass gas assuming that no one is going to need to make copies. But seconds afterwards, a co-worker walks up to use the copier and exclaims "What's that smell?" And your only response is "I think the ink toner is messed up." And the co-worker just nods skeptically.

Man, I hate when that happens.

Question of the Day

Is there anything worse than people who drive around in purple Chrysler PT Cruisers?

I didn't think so either until last night after work. I was driving behind one and noticed that the owner decided to go with mudflaps designed with a burst of flames. It was hilariously pathetic and at the same time, I realized that if he added a stripe down the sides and a front exhaust system on his hood, he would have had the exact replica of one of my MicroMachines that I used to play with back in the late 80's.

Did anyone ever own Pound Puppies?
Neither did I..........(uncomfortable pause).
